Fire Board Meeting debates new Special Committee
03/03/10

  The Heber/Overgaard Fire District Board held their monthly meeting in the Fire Department conference room on Tuesday, February 23rd. The Board approved the Financial Statements for the year of 2009 as presented by the audit firm of Breecher & Company PC. The Board also approved the forming of a Citizens Committee to develop ideas that would assist the Department in reducing the cost of operations. A Open Meeting of this group was scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Other matters on the Agenda that were approved were:

1. January Meeting Minutes;

2. Adoption of new FMLA(Family Leave Act) policy, and Leave of Absence department policies.

During the Call to the Public section several people spoke for and against the approved Citizens Committee for several different reasons. The last speaker, Santiago Gonzales, made the point that the responsibilities given to the new Citizens committee are the same as those that belong to the Board. Santiago questioned why the Governing Board would need this committee rather than taking on the task themselves..

Lastly,  the Board held an executive session to evaluate Chief Stan Wagaman’s performance.

The meeting was attended by approximately 50 citizens.
