Rim community gardens project
Back to basics gardening
03/03/10

Community gardens are springing up all across the country as times get harder and healthy eating is a growing concern, as compared to victory gardens of the 2nd world war era when 85% of all produce grown was in these community gardens.

Our objective is to provide a place and facilities for those who would like to try their hand at a lost art of growing their own produce to cut costs, eat healthier and feel a sense of accomplishment and get to meet new friends.

Greenhouse at Heber-Overgaard Mogollon High School

We have trained master gardeners to help you get started.

This is a low cost way of gardening.  We have some grow box raised beds ready plus well water as a minimal cost.

Also available for our use is a 2000 sq ft modern greenhouse and a smaller older one.

We are also planning on teaching methods of harvesting and preserving your crops.

Possibly having a farmers market to sell some products to raise funds for development and expenses.

We need volunteers and participants, guiding committee members, donations equipment, supplies, skills etc.

We worked hard last summer getting started with help from the H.O.M.E. Center.  Lets show other communities how to work together for the betterment of each other.

So far this year we are seeing an increase in support with donated funds, volunteers, and a sponsor organization.  We are strictly a non-profit all volunteer organization of good old boys and girls.

The location of this project is at the high school behind the bus barn.

Please come and join in the fun!

We express our thanks to the editor of the Mogollon Connection for all her help in getting the work out.
