Senator Sylvia Allen Named ‘Hero of
the Taxpayer’ by Anti-tax Group
2/20/10
(STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX) – In a
clear sign of her commitment to Arizona taxpayers, State
Senator Sylvia Allen (R-5) has been recognized as a ‘Hero
of the Taxpayer’ by the Arizona Chapter of Americans for
Prosperity, a conservative political advocacy group comprised
of grassroots leaders who engage policymakers in the name of
limited government and free markets on the local, state, and
federal levels.
“As a strong conservative, I am
deeply honored by this recognition,” said Allen, a
first-term lawmaker representing District 5 at the State
Capitol. “I can think of no higher honor than to be
recognized for striving to limit government and its impact on
the working families of rural Arizona.”
Allen was one of only three state lawmakers
to receive the highest and most coveted ‘Hero of the
Taxpayer’ designation in the Americans for Prosperity
2009 Legislative Scorecard. Lawmakers were ranked
according to their votes on a variety of taxing and spending
bills.
Allen spent her first year at the Capitol
fighting for Arizona taxpayers by reducing the state budget
while looking out for the interests of rural Arizona. She
has also been a strong champion of legislation designed to
create jobs in rural Arizona through sustainable development of
the state’s natural resources.
“In the 2008 and 2009 legislative
sessions, Sen. Sylvia Allen did an outstanding job of
protecting the Arizona taxpayer,” said Americans for
Prosperity State Director Tom Jenney. “We
congratulate her for earning the designation of Hero of the
Taxpayer for those two years.”
Senator Allen expressed her appreciation to
Americans for Prosperity for the recognition. “As
our state government struggles with the worst budget deficit in
state history, state lawmakers need to remember that working
families are struggling, too. The last thing state
policymakers should do is increase the burden on those families
and make their economic recovery more difficult. Being named a
Hero of the Taxpayer only strengthens my resolve to continue
protecting families from the growing reach of an ever-expanding
state and federal government.”
