On Saturday April 7th the Ponderosa Lions Club hosted their annual Easter egg hunt and coloring contest for the children of Heber/Overgaard. This annual event has been sponsored by the Lions for about 24 years to the delight of our community. As with all events, a lot of planning and volunteer work goes into the successful completion of an event like this. Lions member Donna Kreiser spearheaded the event as she has for the past many years. To make this happen, Hickman’s donated 265 dozen (3180) eggs which were boiled at the Senior Center and colored by the Lions Club members, guests and Girl Scout Troop 2566. In addition, Heber IGA donated Hot Dogs, the Overgaard Market donated Ice, Frank Steinhoff Distributing donated the hot dog buns, Dollar General and Lions members donated candy, Outback Bob’s Saw Shop donated Twinkies, Ace Hardware donated the bags for the candy and Bison Ranch donated the pictures for the coloring contest and the Chamber of Commerce arranged for the porta potties. The Heber/Overgaard Fire Department was, as always, standing by to make sure everyone was safe.
Helium filled balloons were passed out by a clown, a fuzzy bunny and volunteers plus the children were given candy bags as well. Participation in the egg hunt was broken down by age groups to give everyone an even chance to collect as many eggs as they could. Hundreds of happy children participated and all went away with their goodies and a big smile on their face.
This is another of the wonderful annual events that happen in our community. This event is another reason that Hebert/Overgaard is a wonderful place to live.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Ponderosa Lions Club and their 65 members for all of the things they do for our community.
